ABNFAH is an indie rock band that plays its own brand of acoustic and electronic music. Influenced heavily by bands like Saves The Day and Death Cab, ABNFAH writes songs that are sometimes dark or somber, but which incorporate catchy lyrics to keep you singing along. In addition to being musically astute, the band does it’s best to remind you that no matter how awkward your love-life is, someone else is feeling just as weird as you.

Breton Parks is a multi-instrumentalist and solo artist hailing from Littleton, Colorado. In 2011, Breton released his first album, ‘Whelk’, which was featured on bolachas.org and various other blog sites. On January 12th, 2013, Breton Parks released the follow-up album, ‘The Cloven Ips’ which tapped even deeper into his 90′s infused sound.

Briffaut is a local dream-pop supergroup from the Springs and one of the bands performing under the Kings Of Space umbrella. They’re extremely unique and energetic! Be sure to follow them on Tumblr and check out lead singer Daniel James Eaton’s song-a-day project.

An indie rock band from Woodland Park, Cliff Letters is a band that truly plays from the heart. Timmy Vilgiate sings with passion, but conveys his lyrics incredibly well his energetic physical performances. This group is influenced by bands like The White Stripes and The Arcade Fire, and they bring a unique set-up to their shows with an electric mandola and a saxaphone, for starters.
Personal Fave: The song “Rose” brought tears to my eyes when I saw them live for the first time. It’s a powerful song.

Dancers These Days is a straightforward Pop/Rock band bringing energetic music to the local scene. They’ve won plenty of awards since they were founded, including ”Best Rock Band” a title given them by the Colorado Springs Independent!

The Epic Weatherman is a solo performer who specializes in ambient electronic music. Taking inspiration from bands such as Radiohead and Idiot Pilot, Colin Bovberg is never afraid to experiment and play with sounds even when he’s on stage. This guy puts so much emotion into every note he sings, that he is impossible to ignore. Don’t let him fool you, though, he’s as crazy as he looks.
Personal Fave: “She’s Trouble But Whatever” it’s just my kind of weird, but if you’re just getting acquainted with this musician, you can’t go wrong with “Take You Over”.

The Flumps are a popular indie rock band working under the Kings Of Space collective. Easy to jam to, easy to dance to, and very easy to enjoy. Period.
How one hears them can make all the difference, since their sound is said to vary between recordings and live performances. What never changes, though, is how very relatable their lyrics are.
“Emerald Lights and Fast Cars EP” Review
Chances are good that if you’re involved in the local music scene, you’ve heard of these guys. This prog-pop band has been making waves in town and have definitely got the potential to make it big some day. They’ve proven that they can have fun on stage, but they keep an air of professionalism about them as well. They sound a bit like Minus The Bear and Explosions In The Sky, the kind of band that wants to take you on a ride. Why on Earth wouldn’t you let them?
Personal Fave: “Hand-Picked Lemon”. It’s so dreamy and dancey…*ahem* and it’s got some great instrumentation as well.
Hemingway Mile – Facebook – Youtube
Hemingway Mile is an acoustic duet featuring Jenn Watts and Kolby Burwell. These two make a great team, bringing beautiful vocals, great lyrics, and fantastic guitar work to the table. The two really work well together making heartfelt, meaningful music and they’re definitely worth listening to.
Personal Fave: I had the privilege of helping them record their first demo and the song “Something Cliche” had my heart throbbing with those sweet vocals.

This is a progressive rock band with steampunk tendencies. They have great stage presence and keep their fans engaged on and off stage. The band is based in the Springs, but performs in Denver as well. They’re doing a good job of spreading their name with plenty of merch and advertising. If you’d like a taste of their music, check out their official website.
Personal Fave: Arctic Disposition is a good place to start if you’re just hopping on the train. These guys are definitely headed towards great things!
Knight In Colors – Bandcamp – Facebook
Knight In Colors is a fresh new band, bringing this town the much needed grunge/indie rock it ought to have. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting these guys in person yet, but their demo sounds awesome and they’ve got a new EP in the works which I’m excited to hear.
These guys are working up quite a reputation with airplay on UCCS, a feature in the Indy, and playing a sold out show with Claymore Disco. They’ve got plenty of big shows coming up. Check em out!
The Kyles - Facebook
Here is another young rock band with plenty of talent. These guys are really down to earth, but they have the ability to melt your face off with their technical guitar skills. They mostly play cover songs, but they do it well and have fun doing it!
Mobile Air – Facebook
Punk acoustic music from our own Brandon Arnold! Mobile Air is energetic music with heart and lyrics you can relate to. Brandon has awesome presence and knows just how to keep a crowd entertained with his personality as well as his music. It just goes to show that great musical acts can come from the ashes of others. Hint hint.
Personal Fave: “Otherworldy Girl.” Who could resist that feux spanish accent during the intro?…

A punk band with a lot of bite. These guys are still in highschool, but don’t underestimate them, these guys rock hard!
Personal Fave: I really dig their song “Rabbit On The Moon.” It starts off like a melodic indie song and then changes up very suddenly near the end. Dig it!
Oh Captain, My Captain – Facebook
These are two brothers, Luke and Micah Hopkins, who have come together to make a phenomenal acoustic act. They both pull their weight with singing and playing a wide variety of instruments, making it seem that music runs deep in their family and comes very easily to them. They play very laidback music, but always keep it interesting and lighthearted.
The Story Thief – Bandcamp - Facebook
The Story Thief is an acoustic act that takes influence from blues and folk, fronted by the ambitious Jense Jorgenson. Jense is a pioneer of his own sound with the talent and brains to back him up. I’ve had the pleasure of playing music with him on multiple occasions and he’s always proven to be well-educated in music theory, which is more than I can say about many local musicians (myself included).

These guys can be a bit camera-shy sometimes, so we don’t have a recorded interview outside of a tightly-concealed cassette tape which is wrapped with greater security than Gringotts, but you can read our full article on the band here.
Personal Fave: I’m having a love affair with their song “6.” The lyrics are just badass and I love the tings during the chorus. I’m serious.
Sundays’ Secret – Facebook
Sunday’s Secret is an indie rock trio from the Springs that’s all about having fun and making good music, for music’s sake! They’re a very cool bunch and we hope to see more of them in the future. If you’d like to check em out for yourself, you can find them on FB.

We Are Not A Glum Lot is another Kings Of Space band that’s been making waves for quite some time now. They play well-composed music, incorporating violin and even an upright bass into their set. Despite their name, their music can have a somber effect on the mind until they kick things into high gear and get the crowd going.
These guys have a ton of potential, and while it could be a blessing or a curse in the long run, are still in high school. They happen to be the youngest band to play the Indy Music Awards and they rocked it! Expect big things from these guys…

In his wolfe. project, Stephen concentrates on creating spacey, beautiful, and atmospheric beats with inspiration coming from all areas of chill wave, cloud rap, and hip-hop. DREAMGHOST, on the other hand, takes a much darker and more glitchy/sample-based approach to the same influences. While both projects are separate in their own right, you’ll find them crossing paths as he progresses his sound.
While still in high school, Stephen has already released an EP as half of the Hoot Crew, as well as a solo album under the wolfe. project. You could say that things could only get better from here, and those of us who are listening to him now would agree.
